pics of la chica

Sophie will be eight months old in a week. Boy how time flies!!! Here are some seven month + pictures. A new helmET scan will be coming soon!

Sporting the new helmET. Looks identical to the last, but larger... Love the expression in this pic....and those Dunkle eyes. Our little mover and shaker!
Happy girl! Happy girl!

This is the aerial view of her head. Still a little asymmetrical, but getting better. It's hard to see because of the hair!

Getting so big! Still tilting her head...but it just helps with the cute factor in pics! You can see her two bottom teeth in this pic.

Snowy days and Mondays always get me down!!!

Yes, I've resorted to paraphrasing old Carpenter's songs. But, it's totally true...I changed the rainy to snowy because today was a snowy day...another snowy day. I NEVER thought this teacher would be caught saying this, but I'm ready for winter to be over. It has snowed more than I ever remember. If we lived somewhere else, it would be no big deal, but we have just enough mountainous terrain to make life miserable when it snows. Slippy Slidy Mess!!!! Too scary to brave sometimes.

Today I have declared PJ day in the Lucas house. Hubby left for an "out of town" work trip, so Sophie and I are all snuggled down. Didn't go to any appointments today either! I feel lazy, but such is life! I really should venture out to the grocery store, but that may be put off until tomorrow too. I think I will only focus on the musts! Must wash the shower curtain! Must sweep the living room floor and clean up the clutter for Sophie's physical therapy appointment tomorrow. Must eat as much yummy food as I can.....wait, that's bad...right???? Another side effect of being snuggled down.....gorging on all things edible!! I guess I'll have to work extra hard on the work outs this week!

A love letter....via Spiderman

Yesterday was girl's night! I went out for a whopping 2.5 hours. Please realize that 80 minutes of that is travel time. I met the girls out for sushi and conversation and it was a total blast. These are such nice women. We talked girl talk and even went to Starbucks for dessert and coffee. When we were sitting there, my cell phone rang. I answered.... "WHAAAAAAAA, WHAAAAAAAA, Whimper WAAAAAAAA". Poor hubby quietly asks, "Honey, when are you coming home???? She can't calm down." I was so proud of him...He's never called or asked for help before. He was doing everything he knew to help her. I was glad to make a quick exit and hustle down the road to help the fam. I even had him put me on speaker phone and talked to her for a while, which surprisingly worked for a few minutes!

I walked in to see a very frazzled hubby holding an exhausted and sleeping daughter. He immediately apologized and said, "You didn't have to leave, honey.." To which I responded that family is the number one thing. I praised him for "getting her to sleep", which was most likely from her crying herself into exhaustion. Picked her up, woke her, nursed her and got her to bed. She slept soundly.

This morning I got up and started our morning routine. I walked into the living room and noticed a folded piece of paper on the mantel. I thought to myself, "Ahhhhhh, how sweet, hubby wrote me a sweet love letter." I resisted the temptation to pick it up immediately until after I got Sophie squared away and fed. FINALLY!!! I thought, I can read his note. I could see through the paper that it was set up in poem format. (centered and in small chunks)

I opened the letter and read the heading, "Spiderman"....Huh???? Hmmmm????Interesting, a poem with a superhero heading....then I read on....

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!!!
Here comes the Spiderman.

OK....not what I expected. Now, why you ask??? Here's why! I walked into the living room today to see my husband dancing around in front of our daughter, making her laugh, singing....you guessed it...."Spiderman, Spiderman.....etc.." word for word! So, it was a love letter of sorts. It was directed to the little 7 month, 17 lb. girl of his dreams!

Ahhhh ignorance is bliss....

OK people....You say you are my friends and family... right????

Why did NO ONE correct me on my incorrect spelling of helmet??? (helmit) I have been incorrectly spelling the word most used on my blog and in public for several months.

Please note that I have the big LOSER "L" on my forehead right now!!
Duh!!!! Let's just blame mommy memory loss for that error, shall we???

A creature of habit...

I am a creature of habit....when I'm on the go...no one can stop me! BUT, when I have been forced to be complacent, snowed in, home bound, etc.... It is very hard to get this old bird moving again. I tell ya what! Living 30 minutes from civilization (my type of civilization) can be like 1000 miles when you are "mommy tired". I mean, really??? What's 18-22 miles???? NOTHING! I say!!! But, after driving it almost daily for 6 plus months, it can seem like forever. I can't wait for sunshine, warm weather, open doors, rails to trails, a walking baby, and fun in the sun!!!!! I need some inspiration! I can't wait to be done with the helmit, done with the vaccines, done with the therapy, and have lost 20 pounds!!! Now, that last one, well....it seems like an impossible task. I am the only breastfeeding, exercising mommy who was not allowed to eat dairy, butter, soy, etc...and STILL managed to put on a few extra pounds. Again, sunshine and warm weather will sure help out that plight! A walk in the park is more fun without mittens and ski hats!

Now, a scary "first time mom" story. I will be showing my inept mommi-ness in this one. So get yourself ready!!! We have one of those exersaucers from Baby Einstein. I really like it and so does Sophie! Mostly, I like it because it is a contained place for her to play while I shower, cook or handle hot liquids. It is set up in our tiny living room, along with many other baby gear.... Also, on a tv stand, I have a little lap top station, where I multitask mommy duty and Face book duty!!! hahaha

Today, hubby decided to cook breakfast! YAY!! I was so excited that I wanted to positively reinforce his efforts by assisting as sue-chef. I put Sophie in her exersaucer in the middle of the floor and went into the kitchen... Happy sounds were beeming out of her! Whew! I thought...

I came back about 2 minutes later to find my darling 7 month old quietly playing.......WITH THE PLUGGED-IN CHARGER CHORD FOR THE LAPTOP.....YES, in her mouth.....She had managed to wiggle the exersaucer (that doesn't have wheels, I might add) over to the computer, turn her chair all the way around and successfully pull on the power chord of the lap top until she unplugged it.....If I would have waited one more minute to check on her, we would have been in serious trouble.....

TIME TO BABY PROOF!!!! She's just too much like MacGyver for me to handle!

Talk about mommy guilt!!!

A quick update!

Sophie has graduated from her first helmit and is getting fitted for her second. The orthodist is impressed with her recent growth! She boomed up another 3% since the last posted pics. He called her a little "champion". I tend to agree.

Right now the champion is asleep on my lap.
